Research about Wabi-Sabi

Wabi-sabi is a state of mindfulness, it teaches us that although physical health is important we also need to take care of our mental health by accepting the parts of us that we cannot change. Wabi-sabi is a state of mind that encourages gratitude over what we have in our lives, rather than always wanting more, or better. When people get upset over their wrinkles, it is because they don’t reminisce about the laughter that caused it. This practice makes us live in the present moment, and accepting all the good as well as the bad in our lives. Nothing will ever be complete or perfect. We have to accept our growing old, and the inevitability of bad things happening to us. A great example of wabi-sabi is the art of kintsungi, where broken pottery is fixed with a golden lacquer to highlight its flaws as an element of beauty. Often times we hide our flaws from the outer world, which creates resentment. Instead, if we truly accept ourselves, we can live in a life of peace and serenity.
